Inspired by the glorious age of the aero coupés and looking like the villians car from a Marvel comic is Mercedes new concept car – the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Mercedes unveiled it to an excited crowd at Monterey Car Week 2016 which finishes with the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elégance. Measuring almost six metres in length it might prove a handful trying to park at Sainsburys, but its unlikely to ever reach production.
Although retro in design the car looks towards the future with cutting edge ideas and its electric drive system, which is 550 kW (750 hp) using four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors making it all wheel drive. Its battery can be recharged either via a cable connection at a public charging station or a conventional domestic outlet. It can also be charged wirelessly, via an electromagnetic field.
Performance is typical of a sports car with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in under four seconds, top speed electronically governed at 250 km/h) but also a range of over 500 kilometres.
The windscreen also serves as a transparent display showing driving-related data and geographical information across its full width, augmenting the outside world with additional information. This information can be controlled and adjusted by the occupants using gestures, I just hope the car can recognise when the hand gesture is meant for the driver who just cut you up.
I hope to see more concepts like this using good old fashion styling cues mixed with modern technology.
